SELF-DISCOVERY
SELF-DISCOVERY

PERSONAL POSITION

My whanau is full of travelers. We are ethnically Chinese, but my grandparents decided to migrate to Cambodia to seek out financial opportunities. This led to my parents being born in a third-world country. Still, through their hard work and motivation, they had my two siblings and me in Thailand and New Zealand, respectively.

My parents mostly lived overseas doing international business, so my Aunt and older siblings raised me in person. My Aunt had the role of a nanny. It consisted of cooking and cleaning for me because I was so young; this instilled the value of Kaitiakitanga into my life through her unconditional care. My brother and sister would always spend time with me even though they were much older and raised me on their hobbies. From this point in my life, they instilled Mahi Tahi, where I would always be learning, collaborating, and listening to their lessons.

Throughout my life, I attended private schools, and in parallel, I trained Kung Fu in Remuera since I was the age of 7. This naturally taught me the importance of discipline, fitness, and community. When I became a black belt after years of training, I was expected to give back by teaching new students. I was raised as a Buddhist but grew out of religion the older I got, but still retained its core values. This would mainly translate to carrying the value of Kaiarahi, where every action one takes has a reaction, so they should lead by example.
I managed to land my first job at Hoyts Cinemas when I had just turned 16. This kickstarted my life of independent thinking because I was earning money for the first time. From this experience, I learned the inner workings of business and discovered a passion for it. This influenced me onto the road to a Bachelor of Commerce years later. After my contract as a cinema attendant closed, I delved into hospitality and then retail, where I currently enjoy part-time work.
FUTURE DIARY
I wake up at 6:00am without snoozing my alarm. After spending a few minutes meditating, I complete a calisthenics workout. I will cook fresh food for breakfast from exhaustion with significant assistance from my futuristic appliances. To start my day fresh, I will take a cold shower for 20 minutes while thinking of an outfit to wear for the day.

After getting dressed in something fashionable, I will begin working on the multiple businesses I own by simply wearing a pair of e-glasses that work like a phone. My companies range from clothing brands and technologies I have invested in. I would be working with intelligent, like-minded individuals who can be my close friends outside of work.

Once I have updated myself with the progress of my companies, I will hold important meetings, if needed, in person because communication is more effective with a physical presence. I’d let my wife know before I head off to one of my offices/ studios in my self-driven electric Toyota Supra (no more petrol cars). After I return from work, I’d play games either for entertainment or to improve my mental capabilities (like chess) as educational games will become more capable.

Depending on our schedules, I could also choose to spend time with my wife before attending a martial arts class, either teaching in my club or attending a course to train for an upcoming tournament. These training classes will facilitate new combat technology like artificial training partners and devices that can instantaneously measure performance. During my breaks, I will snack on instant noodles modified to contain vitamins and protein to save time.

Finally, I will have dinner with my wife at a fancy restaurant. This setting will replicate the current restaurants we currently indulge in, which would not seem futuristic. But the change will be in societal norms, as most restaurants now will only consist of robotic waitresses due to cost; having human labor will be seen as a luxury. We will get home by 10pm, where I’ll be ready for bed and 8 hours of sleep.
