PLURIVERSAL REFLECTION

By reviewing my first blog (Future diary) and my subsequent blogs, there are a lot of things that I would change. For example, I barely speculated about my interactions with the environment and the conditions I would be exposed to. To correct this, I believe that in the future, in 2037, the climate will be more extreme.

Assuming that I will remain in New Zealand, winter will be colder, and summer will be warmer. This means the country will be exposed to more sophisticated air condition tech, guided by equator bordering countries currently facing this issue. I still have faith in humanity, so I believe that the globe will be able to work towards healing poor environmental conditions. Therefore designs will have already been established to face desertification and flooding worldwide. This results in more land for agricultural and irrigational opportunities, which will hopefully be used to reduce world hunger significantly.

The global pandemic will remain in the long run. Viruses are ever-changing, and peace from superbugs will get shorter and shorter with each hit. To adapt, lifestyles and businesses will significantly prefer social distancing instead of crowding. This does not mean private hangouts will vanish, only places like malls, concerts, and festivals that gather a bunch of people. Online businesses will thrive, such as UberEats and digital clothing stores. On the other end of the spectrum, there will be far fewer physical stores due to the lack of on-foot demand. Unfortunately, I can see this leading to a more introverted society with people glued to their digital devices 24/7.

Even though I’m forecasting dramatic changes in environmental and societal conditions, I doubt they will affect the future lifestyle I envisioned. My goals and ambitions will not change because they do not rely on anyone else but me. My life will look (feel free to call me delusional) luxurious, feel fulfilling, and smell and taste great in 2037. I will surround myself with the desires I have now. To be more specific, with “luxurious,” I mean living a more expensive and convenient zero waste lifestyle for which not many will have the means. This is because I highly value sustainability and want to fight the stigma of sustainable lifestyles being frugal.

One of my three domains has changed, specifically the future of restaurants. This is because I thought it was already quite similar to the future of food. Additionally, Pluriversal Design opened me up to being more open-minded to other cultures while being speculative. This is why I want to replace the future of restaurants with the future of Chinese culture and religion outside of China.

Diversity on Earth is ever-growing, and more eastern people are immigrating for better opportunities and new lifestyles (sense of escapism). The subsequent children will grow up and find an inner longing to reconnect with their ethnic cultures. I think this is an endless cycle, and I can relate to it immensely. My question is, what will the future look like for Chinese people growing up in western countries who want to reconnect with their ethnic culture? Will they still pray authentically? Will they still try to retain their dialects? And will technology be incorporated into the culture? These are the few questions of many that I currently dwell upon. Just to note, I am still conflicted about choosing between this future and the future of combat sports.
